Last night, Sam Hunt made a splash at the 2015 American Music Awards after beating out Fetty Wap, Tove Lo, Walk The Moon, and The Weeknd in the New Artist of The Year category. The country music heartthrob was also up for nominations in two other categories: Favorite Male Artist (Country) and Favorite Album (Country). Although he won as a “new artist,” Hunt is no stranger to the music industry. As a songwriter, he has penned smash hits for Reba McEntire, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, and others in the past. His RIAA gold-certified album Montevallo was released back in November 2014. The album, which debuted at number 1 on Top Country Albums and number 3 on the Billboard 200, includes three platinum chart-toppers (“Leave the Night On”, “Take Your Time,” “House Party”).
In his acceptance speech, the singer expressed how proud he was “to represent country music.” Hunt continued by thanking all those “people back in Nashville who have been there from the start.” Additionally, his appreciation for his fans seemed evident as he expressed further gratitude, “You were there for the long haul. We kind of threw our keys over the fence and never looked back.” Click here see the full list of winners from the 2015 American Music Awards.
